Abstract

Vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) originates from the Pacific West Coast of Latin America, ranging from Peru in the south to northern Mexico. Vannamei shrimp were introduced to Indonesia in 2001 and have since become one of the most economically valuable shrimp species. They serve as an alternative shrimp species that can be cultivated in Indonesia. Vannamei shrimp are a rich source of protein and are relatively affordable, encouraging the public to increase their consumption as a highly nutritious food for health benefits. The Field Work Practice (PKL) on the nursery technique of Vannamei shrimp was conducted from July 1 to July 31, 2024, at PT. Central Proteina Prima Tbk (CP Prima) in Lubuk Besar, Central Bangka, Bangka Belitung Islands Province. The nursery process of Vannamei shrimp covers the stages from the Nauplius stage to the post-larvae stage (PL 8-12) according to consumer demand. The activities include container preparation, cleaning of containers and equipment, sterilization of tools, containers, and the cultivation environment, stocking of shrimp larvae, larval acclimatization, shrimp larval maintenance, and feeding. The feed provided consists of natural feed such as phytoplankton (Thalassiosira sp.) and zooplankton (Artemia sp.), as well as artificial or commercial feed. Water quality management involves monitoring several water quality parameters, including pH, temperature, salinity, alkalinity, NO₃, NO₂, TAN, and Fe.
